Ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak

Ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak

  • Once the above process is complete, this will reset the Background Intelligence Transfer Service (BITS) as well as the Windows Update Service (wuauserv) to their default settings. 
  • After that, you have to copy the following commands and paste them. However, make sure there is no mistake in copying the command and then hit the Enter button.

cd /d %windir%\system32
